Marcus’s eyes shifted toward Daniel.

Daniel slowly took a folder from inside his coat and placed it on the table.

“Your father’s records are inside,” he said. “Rachel altered the company name before showing them to you.”

Just exhausted.

I stopped several feet away.

“Put the g/u/n down,” I said.

His eyes filled with something I could not name.

Regret, perhaps.

Or the terrible understanding that every decision had led him to this exact room.

His fingers loosened.

The g/u/n fell to the floor.

An officer kicked it away.

Marcus was restrained within seconds.

Rachel tried to run again, but two officers caught her before she reached the door. She shouted that she was innocent, that Marcus had forced her, that Daniel had manipulated everything.
