He had not planned this.
He had brought the we/@/pon because he wanted to feel powerful, never imagining he might need to decide what to do with it.
Now every person in the room waited for that decision.
I stood.
The lead officer shouted, “Ma’am, stay seated!”
Marcus looked at me.
I stepped around the table.
“Eleanor,” Daniel said quietly.
But I continued forward.
Marcus aimed at me.
“You think you won,” he said.
“No.”
“You trapped us.”
“I gave you both a choice.”
“You don’t know anything about me.”
“I know Rachel promised you enough money to erase your debts.”
His face twitched.
“I know she convinced you the company had cheated your father.”
“She said Whitmore Industries destroyed him.”
“Your father never worked for Whitmore Industries.”
Marcus froze.
Rachel looked up sharply.
I continued.
“He worked for a contractor called Vale Manufacturing. The company closed after its owner disappeared with the employees’ pension funds.”
