No one answered.
As they led her through the hallway, she twisted around to face me.
“This isn’t over!”
Her voice echoed through the house.
“You think you know what your husband left you? You don’t know anything!”
The officers moved her outside.
The front door closed.
Silence returned.
For the first time that night, I allowed myself to breathe.
Daniel collected the false documents from the table.
“You took a risk standing up.”
“I knew Marcus wouldn’t fire.”
“You couldn’t know that.”
“I knew Rachel had loaded the g/u/n.”
Daniel stopped.
“What do you mean?”
I looked toward the we/@/pon sealed inside a clear evidence bag.
“She found it in my husband’s study two months ago.”
Daniel’s expression changed.
“You knew she had taken it?”
“The study camera recorded her.”
“Then why didn’t you report it?”
“Because the g/u/n had already been altered.”
