Marcus frowned.
Rachel’s face went pale.
“She’s bluffing,” Rachel said.
“Am I?”
I looked directly at Marcus.
“The board discovered unauthorized transfers. Nearly four hundred thousand dollars disappeared over eight months. The money moved through three consulting companies that didn’t exist.”
Marcus slowly lowered the g/u/n.
“That’s not true.”
“It is,” I said. “And one of those companies was registered under your name.”
Silence filled the kitchen.
Rachel’s eyes darted toward the back door.
Marcus noticed.
“What did you do?”
“Nothing,” she said quickly. “She’s making this up.”
“Why would my name be on anything?”
“It isn’t.”
“It is,” I said. “Northbridge Strategic Services. Registered eleven months ago.”
Marcus stared at Rachel.
“You told me that company belonged to your cousin.”
“It does.”
“Then why is she saying my name?”
“Because she’s trying to turn us against each other!”
Marcus moved toward Rachel.
