Rachel grabbed his wrist.
“Stop!”
Marcus twisted away from her. “You wanted this as much as I did.”
“I wanted the papers signed. I didn’t agree to a we/@/pon.”
“You agreed when you gave me the address.”
“I gave you the address because you said you could convince her.”
Marcus stared at Rachel.
“You told me she was weak.”
Rachel’s lips parted, but no answer came.
I watched them carefully.
Their partnership was not as strong as they wanted me to believe. It had been built on panic, greed, and lies. Structures like that never collapsed slowly.
They shattered.
I leaned back in my chair.
“Rachel didn’t tell you everything, did she?”
“Be quiet,” Rachel said.
Marcus’s eyes remained on her.
“What didn’t you tell me?”
“Nothing.”
“Rachel.”
“She’s lying.”
I almost smiled.
“Did she tell you the company accounts were frozen last week?”
