The old photograph hung on one wall as part of a display about the foundation’s history.
I noticed immediately.
“You put Daniel on the wall.”
“Evelyn did.”
“He would have loved that.”
“He would have made fun of the photograph.”
“That too.”
The center was empty except for Rachel, who was waiting near the front desk with Mia.
That was suspicious.
“Why is my daughter here?”
Mia smiled much too widely.
“No reason.”
I looked at Adrian.
“No.”
He blinked.
“I haven’t asked anything.”
“You are planning something.”
“Possibly.”
“If this is an enormous public gesture—”
“It isn’t.”
“If there is a photographer—”
“There isn’t.”
“If you’ve rented a helicopter—”
“Why would I rent a helicopter?”
“You’re a billionaire. I don’t know what your people do.”
Rachel laughed and led Mia toward the courtyard.
“I’ll give you two a moment.”
Adrian watched them leave.
