Christopher stared at him.
“You were going to invest?” Victoria asked.
“I was thinking about it. That’s why I wanted to see the place myself.”
Christopher’s eyes flicked toward me.
I followed them to the sandwich he’d suddenly brought over, then to Benny’s bowl of water.
“You were going to invest?”
He hadn’t known about the investment. Steven’s identity alone had changed everything.
I looked at Christopher.
“You didn’t know about that, did you?”
“No.”
“But you knew who Steven was.”
Christopher’s jaw tightened. “I’d seen photos, and we’d spoken on the phone before.”
“No.”
